Mumbai Attack Terror Suspect To Be Sentenced

Canadian citizen Tahawwur Hussain Rana is suspected of being involved with an Islamic extremist group that conspired to bomb a Danish newspaper as well as for the 2008 Taj Mahal Hotel attacks in Mumbai. He was arrested by authorities in the US in 2009, however, he has not been extradited to India to face charges. Rana maintains that he and his family's visit to the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower prior to the attack was for recreational purposes. His defense lawyer says that friend David Coleman Headley is actually responsible for conspiring again the Indian and Danish governments.

Although none of the attacks happened on US soil, Rana could be sentenced to a 30 year jail sentence. He has already been found guilty on all charges, however, Rana may be given the death penalty if he turned into authorities in India. Rana's relatives, including his brother Abbas Rana, a Canadian journalist, has long proclaims Tuhawwur Hussain Rana's innocense. Now that Rana has been found guilty, he will have to wait until the jury decides his sentence.

Rana's association with David Coleman Headley was used against him during court proceedings. Headley has admitted to working with the Pakistani Islamic terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Although Headley is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani descent, he regularly traveled to India in order to plan the attacks. Headley also worked for the US government as a spy before he began to work with terrorists. After being arrested, Headley plead guilty and awaits sentencing.
